Reserve Your Plate Now!Awards Banquet ComingGary Stigall, CSTE Bob Gonsett contacted me regarding gathering broadcasters together for a dinner to "issue plaques to commemorate their continuity in the industry. Ask them to give short speeches on their reflections on the industry." Let's all join in to celebrate their achievements, roast 'em alive, and just break bread together. We plan to have at least fifty attendees. Make it a complete evening and join us! We're holding the honorary banquet Wednesday evening, December 13, starting with a no-host cocktail hour and hors d'ouevres at 6:00 PM, followed by a dinner at 7:00 PM. The location: The Four Points Hotel by Sheraton at 8110 Aero Drive adjacent to Montgomery Field. Members and non-members are invited, as are your spouse or date. Tell your friends and industry retirees who may not normally attend our events. Just get your reservation in as soon as possible, preferably NOW while you're reading this. We're asking for $10 per plate at the door, and we'll have a no-host bar. Please, no small childrenthe entertainment won't be up to the task. Note that this is the second Wednesday and not the third as has been the custom for SBE dinners. Communications General Corporation will join Harris, Televideo, and Western Radio Electronics in underwriting the affair. If you'd like to be added as a co-sponsor, contact Randy Philips. This is not a fundraiser event--we don't expect to break even. HONOREESWe need your vote for award recipients. We have one award this year for each specialty: radio, television, and allied fields. The allied fields include local manufacturers, distributors, or service providers who have made a local impact in the technical end of broadcasting. Here are the nominees: Radio
Television
Allied Industries
Please send to sbe36@broadcast.net by December 8, 2000 a list of people attending the dinner, whether you'd like the roast pork loin or Chicken Chardonnay entree, and names you want to honor for each of the three fields mentioned above. Go ahead and reserve a spot or vote even if you aren't sure you can attend. Think of these people in terms of their lifetime contributions to San Diego broadcasting behind the scenes. You're welcome to include write-instheir names will be mentioned at the dinner. Note that Bob Gonsett and Robert Lonn have declined nominations, and we'll honor their wishes this time. I'm sorry that the list doesn't include all the deserving people in the San Diego market. See you there! |
