KUSI Upgrading Transmitter Facilities

Channel 51 is checking out its new Comark UHF transmitter housed in a new building and feeding a new antenna. Their RCA previous TTU-55 Transmitter was part of a complete RCA package, put on the air in 1982.

New KUSI Comark Transmitter

Chief Engineer Richard Large says that "With the coming of DTV, it was time to upgrade our transmitter facilities for the future of television, since station management felt that NTSC would be around for some time. Phase I was to build a larger building to house both television formats and erect a new 150 foot tower for the NTSC antenna. Phase II was replacing our existing RCA with a new transmitter and CP antenna. We will be radiating 2.8 million watt in the horizontal and vertical planes. In Phase III will we move our existing tower and microwave over to the new site for DTV service. Phase IV is the installation of a DTV transmitter once we receive a construction permit from the FCC."

"It has been a long process of negotiating leases, zoning meetings, environmental studies, permits, permits, permits and equipment installation. I'm glad this part of the DTV conversion is almost over."
